What I did on Ykoa

Role : Game Designer | Level Designer | Programmer

  • Programmed the grab/hold core mechanic and interactions with environment (Trees, plants, apples…)
  • Scripted an interactive subtitled ‘dialog’ system ( Scripted appearance of various UI text dialog on screen when player has done a specific thing )
  • Cared a lot about introduction to the valley ( Wide view at first )
  • Did a lot of  3D low poly modeling ( Created all the assets except water )
  • Did use Unity’s Animator to script 3D mesh movement
  • Created a working Day/Night cycle
Entrance to Ykoa's Valley

What is Ykoa ?

Ykoa is a First person exploration prototype, where the player can interact with objects in the environment.

An invisible entity is found in a cave and asks the player to collect objects from the environment such as apples, berries, tree branches, plants…

Intentions / Others

A prototype to test new things in Unity

This prototype was an opportunity to improve my skills in Unity concerning programming, event scripting, asset integration and graphic rendering.

I really did emphasize on scripting little events, player’s actions and interaction with objects of the environment.

Something colorful and calm

I chose to make something interactive in a colored space, where the player would be given ‘objectives’ that he could achieve by exploring the valley and by looking for specific objects ( Berries, plants… ).

At first I knew I wanted to make something where the player could get immersed really fast by giving him interactions with pretty much everything
